Animal communication or animal telepathy describes the exchange of information between a (human) and (non-human) animal through visions, thoughts, feelings and sensations. If you find this concept confusing or are at the beginning of your journey, there are so many resources to help you get started.
The previous articles delve into how telepathy is used to communicate with animals, as well as some basic rules and preparation for working with our furry friends. They also contain helpful exercises for tapping into intuition and discovering your psychic or "clair" senses.
Once you know how to make a deep spiritual connection with an animal, there are some common questions that might crop up which we discuss below.
Can Anyone Communicate with Animals?
Absolutely! Provided you make the necessary preparations and follow the rules (more a code of ethics, really). I could say you don't need to be psychic to learn telepathy, but everyone is psychic - we've just lost touch with those abilities over time. Clair senses are simply a method of communicating that we don't normally use.
It also has a lot to do with the animals themselves, as some will be easier to communicate with than others. Think of the differences between cats and dogs in their general everyday behaviour. Dogs are easier to train because they love to serve and serve to love, while cats need incentives (aka bribery) to do pretty much anything.
So too, the smaller the animal, the smaller their brain. This doesn't mean they're less intelligent, just that it may take longer to receive the information you wish to communicate and vice-versa.
Can I Talk to More than One Animal at the Same Time?
With enough practice and experience, there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to communicate with multiple animals. When I had a session with Samantha Milns of thesnowleopard.co.uk regarding my two cats, she did exactly that. Samantha was easily able to ask questions to both of them and relay their answers, as well as picking up on their emotions and offering energetic healing.
This requires a lot of skill, focus and the ability to determine which animal is speaking at any particular time; however, it can most certainly be done. Some communicators even hear different voices!
Do I Have to Know the Animal?
Animals that you care for will be more familiar with the sound of your voice and physical presence, so a connection may come faster and easier than a wild bird, for example, who has no reason whatever to trust you. Practice with your own pets or those of people you know for a good six months before moving onto other animals.
It may also help to research the animal itself to get a feel for their general behaviours and way of living. At the very least, you should meditate on the animal to let them know you're on the way. I've been a cat parent forever so they're easy to understand and relate to, yet I've never owned a goat or sheep. These animals I've only come across at petting farms - hey, plenty of adults go to farms!
If you don't know the animal and it's not physically in front of you, a photo helps with visualisation and, of course, it's nice to know who you're talking to. You could start by visiting places frequently to get to know the animals, such as local parks, farms or even your back garden. You might find that the same bird or squirrel starts popping up whenever you're nearby!
Can I Communicate with Animals That Have Crossed Over?
Animal communication or telepathy can apply to the living and deceased, in the same way that psychics and mediums use their abilities to connect with our loved ones in spirit. The difference being, animals may not be aware that they're no longer in their physical bodies (this can also apply to human spirits, but the focus here is on animals).
Furthermore, animals are literal creatures and may not interpret death in the same way that we do. An animal's soul lives on so, in their mind, they're not dead at all! Animal communication can be used to help animal spirits cross over, just in case they get a little lost or confused along the way. Others may not wish to leave their human companions - and that's fine, too.
It can also help to understand the difference between a psychic and a medium. The term "psychic" refers to the mind in a psychological sense, such as a person who's sensitive to parapsychological forces or influences. For the purpose of this topic, telepathy and the clair senses would fall into the psychic category.

Medium is a label given to those who act as an intermediatory between the living and the dead: a person who communicates with spirits or spiritual energy. This could include seeing spirits in the form of visions in their mind and third eye; or physically seeing the spirit of a person or animal in front of them.
Both psychics and mediums are able to communicate with the deceased, it just comes through in different ways. As with anything of a spiritual nature, the subject of mediumship is one of huge scepticism and debate. This would require a separate article, but if your goal is to work with Spirit then the tools are available within you.
Can I Use Telepathy to Locate Lost Pets?
There are hundreds of cases of psychics using their abilities to locate both missing pets and people. In fact, some have been known to work with the police, rescue services and, more covertly, government agencies - a little treat for the conspiracy theorists out there.
The biggest concern for guardians when their pets go missing is not knowing whether they're alive or dead. The point to remember is that animals may not know they've passed over, especially if they died in an unfamiliar place. It's sad to say, as no one wants to think of their beloved pets dying alone, but the wonderful thing about animal communication is that we can help both pets and their guardians to move on.
There are many cases you can read about online regarding lost pets for a better idea of how it works. Usually, the animal will show the communicator where it is or the path they took via images of landmarks. If there's a particular smell or taste associated with the area, such as near a biscuit factory, this is where clairalience and clairgustance come in useful.
Perhaps the animal was found near a roadside and taken to a veterinary clinic for treatment, in which case the communicator could receive a clinical smell or images of doctors (vets). Clairsentients may feel physical pain in an area of their body where the animal was injured, but this doesn't necessarily mean they're alive. Sadly, it could be how they died.
I'd strongly advise using an experienced animal psychic rather than attempting communication yourself, so your furry can be located as quickly as possible.
Tools to Help with Animal Communication
Traditional psychic work may incorporate crystals, tarot, runes and scrying amongst other things. You can use any or all of these to aid with animal communication or readings. Below are just a few examples.
Crystals and gemstones: look for powerful stones such as amethyst, resonant of the third eye chakra; quartz to aid clarity and rose quartz to connect with the heart. Stones associated with nature and grounding include unakite, green aventurine and red jasper.
Tarot, oracle and angel cards can help to explore deeper meanings behind visions or clarification on any information you receive.
Pendulums for simple yes or no questions: train it to swing left/right for no and forwards/backwards for yes.
Spirit guides: whether it's your own ancestors, guardian angels or archangels, ask for help and you shall receive it!
