Part 1: 3 Simple Rules All Animal Communicators Should Follow (currently reading)
In this article:
What Is an Animal Communicator?
We use many ways of communicating with or understanding animals in our daily lives, from observing their behaviour and body language to listening to verbal cues - and even conversing with them. If you're anything like me then you might enjoy talking to animals more than humans!
Animal communication or animal telepathy is a slightly different form of communication, which isn't as hokey as it sounds. It simply means becoming more aware of the images or thoughts in your mind and the feelings in your body.
Think of this two-way conversation as an exchange of energy that happens when you tune in psychically or spiritually to an animal. Once connected, the animal will provide information in the form of visions, thoughts, words, feelings, sensations and emotions. The role of an animal communicator is to relay this information to the owner of the pet.

Most people think you have to be psychic to talk to animals, and they're absolutely right.
Psst, we're all psychic!
Psychic ability isn't some magic power bestowed upon the lucky few. In this modern age where technology rules, we've lost touch with our intuition because our brains have been programmed to think logically.
Every living organism on this planet is made up of energy: animals, plants and humans. We're all connected, and so the language of energy is universal. In order to get back in touch with our intuition - our sixth sense - we have to wake it up.
This takes practice but, first and foremost, we must prepare our bodies and minds for this new method of communication. Not only that, but there are some basic rules to follow when working with our furry friends. Think of it as a code of ethics for ensuring the safety and wellbeing of your pets.
It might help to remember the three C's that make a great animal communicator:
Caring.
Compassionate.
Conscientious.

Communication Rules
1. Respect the Animal
Animals want to be heard. They want to be understood and need people like you to give them a voice. According to Pea Horsley, author of the eye-opening book, Animal Communication Made Easy, the process begins with learning to accept that there are two types of animals: human and non-human.
Yes - you and I are animals, too!

Animal Communication Made Easy by Pea Horsley is essential reading for animal lovers who want to understand their pets. Includes a five-step method to create a deep, spiritual connection with any animal.
A major problem with humanity is viewing (non-human) animals as lesser than ourselves: less capable, less intelligent, less feeling and less aware. Imagine a time when you've been treated as lesser by another human being: a boss, a colleague, even so-called friends and family members. I'm sure you didn't enjoy communicating with that person, and the same goes for animals.
"The Human ego - the only difference between Human beings and other developed primates.
Animals have their conflicts, hierarchical disputes; they even kill each other as we know about chimpanzees for example. But despite all of that they never go beyond the optimal parameters of natural necessities/available resources; and in normal circumstances - without some natural catastrophe, Human interference forcing them - they never leave their habitat or threaten Nature’s circle of life.
Humans on the other hand recklessly behave like cancer, wanting to take over; consume everything although it is not necessary, not justified even for a very comfortable, modern, lavish lifestyle for 8 billion or more people.
Here unique empirical Natural scientists - who have been studying Nature and Human behaviour for millennia - tell us that the difference is the Human ego."
- Zsolt Hermann, medium.com
With the absence of ego, I wonder what animals could teach us with their innate wisdom? How else can they enrich their lives? Unconditional love, forgiveness and acceptance come as naturally to animals as breathing is to humans. They're all sentient beings with their own thoughts, feelings, emotions and opinions.
What's your pet's preferred brand of food? What toys does he or she like to play with? What's her favourite sleeping place?
Notice I used the pronouns he/she rather than it/they. When talking about our pets to other people, we use their names and genders as a form of identification. We're not their "owners" but their guardians and companions, yet we rarely show the same courtesy to animals in general. The smallest details can have the biggest impact.

2. Ask For Permission
The next point to note, which you may be able to resonate with as a human being, is one simple word with an enormous meaning: permission. I bet you wouldn't be too pleased if a random stranger approached you in the street and started digging into your private thoughts and feelings.
You might not think this is an issue with your own pets as opposed to a horse in a field; but again, we have to factor in that our pets are independent beings with the same free will that we, ourselves, possess. If your furry doesn't want to talk, then you must respect their wishes and wait for a more convenient time.
Animal communication should never be used as a form of control, punishment or discipline. We have no more right to demand anything of pets than we do of fellow humans. I think the majority of parents or guardians will understand this, having already established a deep connection based on love, respect and understanding.
You'll be aware of your pet's wants and needs, how they express those feelings and how to read their body language. Congratulations, you're already well on your way to becoming a great animal communicator!

3. Believe
As devoted pet parents, we already know that animals can have a profound effect on us: mentally, emotionally and even physically. We're living in an age where pets are part of the family, and we grieve them as deeply as losing a human being. Their very presence has an ability to calm and relax us, so much so that animal therapy is now being recommended for anxiety and depression.
Studies show that the frequency of a cat's purr holds healing properties, specifically the ability to lower blood pressure; reduce stress levels and aid with healing of the body. If they can do that, it begs the question: what else are animals capable of?
We already connect with animals on so many different levels. It's therefore not too far-fetched to believe that animal communication comes from a deeper, more intuitive bond. If we can connect with them on an emotional, mental and physical level - then why not a spiritual level, too?

Preparation
Blockages and Self-Doubt
If you want to begin practicing animal communication successfully, it's vital to remove any blockages - the main one being self-doubt. That little devil on your shoulder telling you that you'll never be successful, you don't have the ability; you're not gifted enough or just pure crazy. If you're so eager to doubt yourself, how will you ever be able to trust animal communication?
This is the mindset that'll prevent you from progressing anywhere in life. You wouldn't go into a job interview and tell everyone that you weren't good enough, smart enough or capable enough. The same applies here, so quit invalidating yourself! Go with the flow, keep those doors open and you'll be amazed at what happens when you stop questioning everything.
It's easy to preach all of this but what about putting it into practice? I'm no expert, but I promise that if you follow these basic rules and advice - and I mean BASIC - then the messages will come. Whether you choose to accept or reject those messages is your free will.

Acceptance
Accepting what you receive from animal communication, whether accurate or not, goes hand in hand with belief. Let's say you ask a friend's dog where he likes to go on walks, and you receive a vision of a park. When you relay this to your friend for confirmation, they reveal that, actually, they walk along the beach every morning.
When we get things wrong, it's our human default to revert to negative thinking. Maybe it goes back to self-doubt, the fear of getting a wrong answer overshadowed the faith you have in yourself. Maybe the dog was showing you where he'd like to go for a walk, rather than where he usually goes - this will come with experience!
Maybe the most obvious choice (park) popped into your head because your own projections were blocking your intuition, thus creating an inauthentic dialogue. Sometimes we're guilty of applying human thoughts and behaviours to animals when, in fact, we're quite different.
You wouldn't go around sniffing butts and peeing up lampposts - or maybe you do, nothing surprises in this day and age - but the general population wouldn't behave like cats and dogs. Therefore, don't expect animals to act and think like us.

Sometimes we get things wrong and that's a fact of life. Whether it's cocking up your finances or failing your driving test, we learn from our mistakes. We correct ourselves, move on and try again with the knowledge we've gathered along the way. This is easier said than done with spiritual work, as we have nothing tangible to tell us what we did wrong. This is where practice and strengthening one's intuition comes in.
